Jim Carrey vs Matthew McConaughey

First of all: what in the name of the good Lord is Matthew McConaughey doing in a car commercial so soon after winning an Oscar? I know Halle Berry did Catwoman and Charlize Theron did Aeon Flux right after snagging Academy Awards but this is surely some kind of new low isn't it?

Secondly, Jim Carrey sadly just keeps getting older. I wish this could stop. He got famous too late in life and I feel like we're owed more years of him in his prime. But hey at least he's still got his funny bones sometimes.

So here he is taking the piss out of the car commercial the McDaddy has done for Lincoln cars. 'Sometimes you got to go back to actually move forward' MM says in the commercial. Well Jim Carrey has gone back to SNL for this little skit and it's pretty funny. Check out the real commercial and then the parody below:

The real deal:

Did it make you LOL so much you ended up ROTFL?

Best Picture Oscar Catch Up

I've just got back from finally seeing Django Unchained and with just two days left until the Oscar ceremony, I've still got to see Beasts of the Southern Wild and Lincoln out of the best picture nominees. Showcase Cinemas are doing a special offer for their Insider members that you can get two tickets to Beasts for only £5 all this week up to Thursday and you can get a single ticket for Lincoln for just £5.

Of the Best Picture nominees, I have already seen the following and if I've reviewed them, just click the title:

Argo
Amour
Life of Pi
Silver Linings Playbook
Les Miserables
Django Unchained
Zero Dark Thirty

For some reason I've only reviewed five of these and I'm afraid it's far too late to write reviews of Argo and Amour as I saw them both ages ago. Suffice to say, I loved Argo but Amour wasn't really my bag, well crafted and superbly acted though it undoubtedly is.

As I said in this post the other day, I've got a little bit of money riding on the Oscars this year and am hoping selfishly and stupidly for Zero Dark Thirty to win best picture; not for its directing, acting, story, cinematography or the whole producing package but simply because the odds are about 80/1 and I'd make a killing!

Anyway this is by far the most of the best picture nominees I have ever seen before the Oscar ceremony so it all makes the awards season slightly more interesting and entertaining than I normally find it. I guess the main purpose of this post is to ask anyone reading this, how may of the best picture nominees have you seen?

And if I could only see one out of Beasts of the Southern Wild or Lincoln before the awards ceremony, what would you recommend is the one I should go for?

So far, for me I'd like either Argo or Life of Pi to bag the award. Les Mis and Amour should get some for acting and give Tarantino one for his best screenplay since Pulp Fiction!

10 Things I'd Rather be Doing than Marking

It's the first day of half term and I've got a shed load of marking to do so here's 10 things I'd rather be doing:

1. Watching Django Unchained before the Oscars on Sunday

2. Watching Zero Dark Thirty, another best picture nominee I need to see

3. Watching Lincoln, because I haven't seen this best picture nominee either

4. Watching more episodes of The Walking Dead Series 2 which I started last night by watching the first two episodes

5. Finishing my review of Stoker for Filmoria which I saw the other day

6. Writing the second chapter of my thesis on how found footage films prime the spectator for their distinctive viewing experiences

7. Writing the second chapter of my book on The Blair Witch Project all about the aesthetics and how they impact the viewing experience

8. Reading the rest of The Hobbit which I started at the beginning of this year but have only managed to get up to chapter 6 so far

9. Reading the latest issue of Total Film that looks packed full of good stuff as usual

10. Getting a much needed haircut

What would you rather be doing than working today?
