The man who composed one of my all time favourite movie soundtracks has passed away. RIP James Horner. You will be missed. And thank you so much for creating this. It was the perfect complement to an incredible film.

Talking Films on Amazing Radio for Movie Month

Radio 1 Rescores Drive, Curated By Zane Lowe... Are they nuts?
Radio 1, led by super-cool Zane Lowe, have decided to rescore the movie Drive with an all new soundtrack. The film will be screened on BBC3 on Thursday 30th October.
New music will be included from the likes of Banks, Baauer, Jon Hopkins, SBTRKT, The 1975, Bastille, Bring Me The Horizon, CHVRCHES, Eric Prydz, Foals, Laura Mvula, The Neighbourhood and more. I've got to say I haven't heard much of any of these but they will have to be pretty damn good to beat the likes of Cliff Martinez, College and Kavinsky.
I love the idea, the ambition and the boldness of going for a film so loved for its film score but I can't help but suspect that this can't be totally successful. It's got the blessing of director Nicholas Winding Refn but surely he knows they can't beat the original music? If Zane Lowe and Radio 1 had decided to tackle something with a less distinctive and iconic score, that would be more understandable.
I guess the point is that this is an experiment and therefore, whether it's better or worse is irrelevant. I for one am looking forward to seeing the new version. If it sucks, we've always got the original to go back and watch. And if it's awesome, I can't wait to see what they dare to tackle next! Here's the trailer for the re-scored version:

Currently Mesmerised by this Music: Spring Breakers OST
No matter what you think of Spring Breakers as a movie, the pairing of Cliff Martinez with Skrillex to produce the soundtrack is absolutely astonishing. The music is completely haunting, taking me back to the more sombre moments of the film and forgetting all about the slightly 'happier' moments of sex and excess. Give it a listen here!

Team America Soundtrack
One of my favourite soundtracks of all time has to be the incredibly funny and actually very listenable Team America soundtrack. Every track is hilarious and demonstrates the South Park creators knack for making great music and skillful and silly lyric writing. From the classic but I suppose 'mildly' racist 'I'm So Ronery' to the savagely satirical 'Everyone Has Aids' and bombastic ironic patriotism of 'America, Fuck Yeah' this soundtrack is full of so many great songs that I'm saddened it didn't get nominated for Oscars.
It's a soundtrack with a bit of everything from power ballads to a homage to montages of the 80s. The lyrics are always spot on and there is even a song about how much Pearl Harbour sucked. Now that's something we can surely all agree on.
I was just thinking about the funniest sex scene ever and I had to go and listen to the wonderfully silly 'Only a Woman'. Then I worried that there might be people out there that hadn't had the pleasure of Team America yet. And if not then you would not have heard any of these classic songs. So thank me later for introducing or re-introducing you to these silly, catchy, clever little dittys. Are they ever going to make a sequel to Team America? Enjoy!
And before you go, if you missed the uncut version of the already pretty filthy sex scene, check the video out below. But be warned there's a reason the MPAA forced Parker and Stone to trim this scene before release. I feel a little dirty just sharing it here but I guess this is how the director intended it to be seen. Call me immature but it still makes me giggle!
