I'm glad the trailer for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation didn't self-destruct as soon as I'd finished watching it for the first time. I've now watched this trailer four or five times and each time I just can't wait for it to get to those final few seconds of Tom Cruise doing what he does best and hanging off a jet that is taking off at god knows what speed.
I'm no big fan of the first three Mission Impossible films. The first had some great (and iconic) moments, the second was completely forgettable crap and the third was ok. But the fourth film, Ghost Protocol blew my socks off. Cruise is a born entertainer and even with all his money and success, just keeps trying to up the ante, especially with this franchise. The Burj Khalifa scrambling scene was a dizzying stand out in an otherwise excellent action film.
I'm not sure if they can hold on to that magic, particularly with Brad Bird departing as director after just one outing, but from the look of this trailer, I think they may have come pretty close. The more Simon Pegg in these films the better and this jet stunt looks like another level of insanity from Tom Cruise; the guy with the most exciting job in the world.
Reading about the lengths they went to in order to get this incredible stunt done has made me even more in awe and desperate to see the sequence in full. Check out this interview with Cruise and new director Chritopher McQuarrie over at Yahoo Movies and then watch this trailer AGAIN!

New trailers: Godzilla, Edge of Tomorrow, Jupiter Ascending
Three brand new trailers to celebrate this festive season; Godzilla, Edge of Tomorrow and Jupiter Ascending.
Godzilla
The teaser trailer for Godzilla is finally here after a few false starts and many videos going online before being taken down and blah blah blah. Starting with a group of soldiers being dropped into a city and putting us right in the point of view of one of them, there is an unbelievable air of dread about the whole thing. We get glimpses of a fair amount of destruction, a lot of running and a decent slice of emoting, particularly from Bryan Cranston, the artist formerly known as Walter White. Godzilla only briefly emerges from the smoke but it's a hell of a lot more of the monster than we got from the Cloverfield trailer back in 2008. Enjoy!
Edge of Tomorrow
Retitled from the probably a bit better but equally baffling All You Need is Kill, Edge of Tomorrow stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. It looks a little bit Source Code, a little bit Groundhog Day but has a hell of a lot more big ass guns, big ass explosions and looks a hell of a lot of fun. The soundtrack to the trailer is suitably robotic and repetitive and I wonder if they are now going to release a new trailer to Fatboy Slim's Eat Sleep Rave Repeat but perhaps re-dub with Eat, Kill, Die, Repeat. Check out the trailer:
Jupiter Ascending
The Wachowski's don't look ready to dial down their desire for the epic anytime soon. After the critically divisive Cloud Atlas, they return with more science fiction, this time with Channing Tatum in distracting makeup and Mila Kunis looking gorgeous as ever. Not sure what is going on here but it certainly looks huge in scope, loaded with special effects and hopefully might have a few big ideas up its sleeve. Check out the trailer:
Any of these take your fancy?

The 5 Funniest Movie Cameos
Movie cameos can be clever, serious or poignant and then many others can be very, very silly. Sometimes stars can make fools of themselves, popping up in silly films and being very silly. With Scary Movie 5 fast approaching and promising embarrassing entries from all sorts of has-beens, I thought I'd take a quick look at some of the best movie cameos that have made me almost rolling on the floor laughing.
Edward Norton in The Invention of Lying as a cop with a coke habit. Cameos are always funniest when a 'serious' actor is willing to get very, very silly.
Martin Sheen in Hot Shots Part Deux. Blink and you'll miss it as the Sheens pass each other on boats and get the opportunity to compliment each other on finer moments in their careers.
Robert Patrick in Wayne’s World 2. For fans of Terminator 2 (and let's face it, who isn't?), this one is utterly hilarious. I just wish the T-1000 had broken into a run at the end of this clip.
Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder. Will Les Grossman get his own spin off film? I for one hope he doesn't. A little bit of Grossman goes a long way.
Bill Murray in Zombieland. Instantly classic. If they do get round to making a sequel, it will take someone pretty special to top a cameo of this silliness.
I wonder what Anchorman 2 will have to offer and if they can top the likes of Tim Robbins in the sequel? What are your favourite funny movie cameos?

Salivating for Sequels: Top Gun and Chucky
A sequel to Top Gun? A remake and a sequel of Child's Play? Today is my lucky day.
No I'm not making it up. Over 25 years after the original gave us an awesome soundtrack, topless men all greased up and playing volleyball on the beach to a song called 'Playing with the Boys', Tom Cruise riding a motorbike and flying the crap out of super speedy jets, fretting about his Dad, shagging Kelly McGillis in an impossibly blue, slow and sexy, sex scene, Goose getting an all time great death and some karaoke lovin' feelin losin comes this news:
'in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount executive Adam Goodman has confirmed that Top Gun 2 is in pre-production' http://entertainment.stv.tv/film/304999-tom-cruise-gets-jet-set-for-top-gun-sequel-as-pre-production-confirmed/
Well it's about time. The US Navy needs another big, dumb, cinematic recruitment advert. Hmmm. Shame Tony Scott's back. I wish he could dial back that attention deficit editing. The writer of Bad Boys 2 is involved which suggests extremely dumb but fun action scenes that will... wait for it... TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY! I hope Val Kilmer can make an appearance. And the ghost of Goose. Heck why not?
Then I hear (two weeks after the news breaks but better late than never) Chucky from Child's Play is going to be back! Now if this was just another sequel I would be concerned after the attempted horror comedies of Bride and Seed of Chucky. But I still hold the original Child's Play trilogy in high regard. I loved those movies as a kid so it pleases me to hear:
'original creators Don Mancini and David Kirschner are cooking up a remake that will stray from the more satiric leanings of recent sequels - the last one featured John Waters, after all – and go for "a darker and scarier retelling of the original film, but one that will offer new twists and turns."'

However then I read over at Total Film:
'This new episode in the long-running franchise will be titled Revenge Of Chucky, and will again focus on the killer doll's immediate family, in a similar vein to Bride Of Chucky and Seed Of Chucky.
As for the remake, Dourif indicated that original writer Don Mancini is still working on script, with the theme thought to be a lot lighter and comedic than the original.'

Well I hope they're wrong about the remake. I want to see Child's Play back to it's dark roots. I know it seems silly and ripe for comedic treatment but to me Chucky is still a little psycho and a terrifying alternative to Woody and Buzz coming alive when you're not watching.
What do you think readers? Does this news spell the end of the world or are you as excited as I am?
