I'm still doing my weekly slot on Amazing Radio every Friday  to talk about new releases at the cinema. Sometimes they put these clips up on their website so I thought I'd share them with you. This is me talking to Scott McGerty on Amazing Radio before Christmas about all the new releases on Friday 6th and 13th December. New films on Amazing Radio

I'm still doing my weekly slot on Amazing Radio but now Ruth Barnes is no longer doing the Friday morning shows and instead I'm telling Scott McGerty all about the latest films each week. That was a couple of weeks ago and last week I talked about Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Parkland, and The Family. Next week I'll be talking about Carrie, Free Birds, Saving Mr. Banks. If you miss me on Amazing Radio, I'm then on Marlow FM in the evenings on Friday.

Mark Kermode introduces... ME!

Over the last six months I've been reviewing movies on a local radio station called Marlow FM. Every Friday I either make an mp3 recording or head down to the studio and talk about all the new releases heading into cinemas. If I make a recording, the hosts of the show play it on air but if I go down to the studio, I actually get to converse with Serena and Lilley who host the two hour Friday evening show 'What's on at the Weekend?'

I even got to co-host the whole two hour show once with Serena when Lilley was away and on September the 20th, I'll be co-hosting with Lilley as Serena is away. It is great experience for me and complements the pretty frequent radio appearances I make on Amazing Radio with Ruth Barnes.

Anyway the real reason for writing about this today is that while I was away gallivanting around Thailand, Serena and Lilley got to go to the Larmer Tree Festival and meet very famous and well respected film critic Mark Kermode. Not only that but they did a 20 minute interview with him and got him to record a (I'm not sure what you call it) sting. So now before I come on and talk about what movies are out at the weekend, Mark Kermode's voice can be heard telling listeners that they are listening to 'What's on at the Weekend?' with Serena and Lilley!

OK so I haven't actually met Kermode and he's not actually introducing me personally but still this is pretty cool right? You never know, one day he might listen in to hear the little sting he made and then stick around to hear my mini-reviews and then perhaps he might just take early retirement and tell me to take over all his duties. It's not impossible surely.

Everybody Has a Plan Review @Static Mass

Viggo Mortensen takes a dual role as both identical twins Pedro and Augustine. Mortensen excels in each role; his Spanish completely convincing and both brothers being believable creations.

UK Cinema Releases this Weekend: What will you be seeing?

It's finally Friday and the weekend begins before you know it! If you want to hear me talking about the films that open this weekend in cinemas, then tune in to either Amazing Radio soon after midday or Marlow FM very soon after 5pm.

This week there are four releases I'm discussing. The first is the big one for the week; Star Trek Into Darkness. With the beloved Benedict Cumberbatch joining the cast, this one is bound to do even better than its predecessor, JJ Abrams' 2009 reboot. Personally having never been a fan of Star Trek, I'm absolutely loving what Abrams has done with this franchise and looking forward to seeing what he does with the other little science fiction series now.

Mud starring Matthew Mcconaughey as a fugitive hiding out on a Mississippi islet looks less bombastic than Star Trek but equally interesting. Promising a grittier performance from Reese Witherspoon (as Muds' sweetheart) than usual and from Jeff Nichols the director who gave us Take Shelter, this should be a gripping coming of age story as two young boys find and befriend Mcconaughey's fugitive.

Both the other releases for the week are world cinema options and as a result are frustratingly difficult to find in any cinemas near me personally. Our Children is the story of a couple who fall in love, get married, continually pop out kids and then crushing depression takes hold of the wife and it all spirals into absolute despair and tragedy from there. Probably not ideal Friday night, popcorn munching fare but still worth a watch. I reviewed Our Children here.

The next option is only slightly less depressing but a far easier watch than Our Children at least. A Hijacking is the story of a Danish ship that is boarded by Somali pirates and the crew are taken hostage for a long and arduous negotiation process while the pirates demand a ransom. It's got some of the stars of The Killing and Borgen and is fantastic. I reviewed A Hijacking here.

On Amazing Radio and Marlow FM Talking Movies

Tomorrow (26th April) I'll be on digital station Amazing Radio with Ruth Barnes and local radio Marlow FM talking about the big releases of this weekend. You can listen to me discussing Iron Man 3, Bernie, The Look of Love and The Lords of Salem on Amazing Radio from soon after 12pm by going to the Amazing Radio website here. Then soon after 5pm I will be appearing on Marlow FM to talk about the same films and even if you don't live anywhere near Marlow, you can listen to Marlow FM here.

I now have a weekly slot on Marlow FM talking about new releases and have to pre-record about five minutes of just me all by myself talking about films which they then play during rush hour when hopefully lots of people from Marlow are listening and thinking about what they might like to see at the cinema over the weekend.

I'm also on Amazing Radio fairly frequently with about one or two appearances per month. This one does not need pre-recording and I actually get to chat with presenter Ruth Barnes who always knows her stuff about film, helping to keep me on my toes!

I've reviewed three or the four films out this weekend so far and my review of The Look of Love is also coming soon. I hope you might listen to my short radio chats tomorrow if you're near a computer or digital radio!

Reviews for Ruth Barnes on Amazing Radio

Three weeks ago I had my radio debut on Ruth Barnes Breakfast Show on Amazing Radio. Today my second attempt at being a radio reviewer went out just after 9a.m. It was recorded on Wednesday over the phone with the unbelievably lovely Ruth who really knows how to make you feel comfortable! She is such a great presenter, sounding so good on the radio that it can't help but make me sound a bit monotonous and boring but I do my best to sound enthusiastic and passionate!

However Ruth always helps me along and is such fun to chat with that both times I come away positively beaming and feeling great about it. But then I hear myself back on the radio and cringe. It's not all bad but I've still got a long way to go! Luckily my students at college had a little listen and were generally complimentary. A couple of my family members listened in to and they said I'm good so I MUST BE! They can't be lying right?

I also managed to do a bit better on the promoting Filmoria side of things this time by mentioning our advent calendar and actually giving the web address! Hoorah! Ruth is always genuinely extremely kind about my appearances so I'm really hoping she'll ask me back again and again and again and again and again!

Radio Debut at Amazing Radio

On Wednesday I got the opportunity to record a segment for Amazing Radio talking film with Ruth Barnes on her breakfast show.  It aired today at just after 9am and thanks to the wonders of internet radio and all that, you can still listen to it for a little while!  Head here to hear the show, click on Amazing Rewind - Ruth Barnes At Breakfast 16.11.12 and my part starts around the 2.07.00 mark!  I was representing Filmoria and was asked to discuss the new releases heading into UK cinemas this weekend.

It wasn't the best week for me to be doing this unfortunately as I hadn't seen all the films on release and I'm not going to admit to how many of these films I've actually seen.  But I gave it my best shot at sounding like I knew what I was talking about and apart from all the umming and aaahing and stuttering and my monotonous tone, I think it went pretty well.

Also with Ruth saying such kind things about Filmoria and also my radio debut, I forgot to get the web address for Filmoria out.  I'm sure people will be able to find it with a search engine but I still would have liked to say www.filmoria.co.uk  There anyway I hope that sort of makes up for it.

Anyway the host Ruth is absolutely lovely and knows her stuff.  She is a Haneke fan and had clearly done her research on the films we discussed so the whole thing was an absolute pleasure and I'm incredibly grateful to Filmoria for the opportunity!
