Terminator Genisys Featurette with James Cameron

This is the moment all Terminator fans have surely been waiting for. It seems that James Cameron has finally given a muted seal of approval to Terminator Genisys.

People have been hating on the film ever since the first pictures and trailers were released. It looked good from the casting but then people started getting antsy as soon as the trailers started showing flipping school buses.

Personally, I love the direction it's going. John Connor turns villain, old Arnie battling young Arnie and Sarah saving Kyle? What's not to love?

Anyway, what do you think about this featurette? Does James Cameron have a gun to his head, a sack load of money waiting off camera, or is this a guy who really believes in this movie?

Latest news, videos and pics from Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Catching Fire is heating up ahead of the November 21st release date and I am lucky enough to be catching a preview screening tomorrow night in London for Starburst Magazine. While I was not the world's biggest fan of the first film, I did love the first and second books in Suzanne Collins' trilogy. I'm also not a huge fan of new director Francis Lawrence either and I think its a real shame that Lionsgate will always push for a 12A rating on these films to maximise their box office potential.

However that is all neither here nor there when it came to seeing the trailers for Catching Fire as I'm now almost as excited as any other Hunger Games uber-fans. Like many others, I'm a little in love with J-Law after her slapstick stunt at the Oscars and constant cute outbursts in interviews. If you've seen Winter's Bone then you would have known immediately this is the perfect girl to play Katniss and she did a fantastic job in the first film.

At least Catching Fire was delivered to the BBFC and got the 12A immediately without having to make any compromising cuts this time. On the other hand some might argue a few cuts might be welcome in a film that is going to be released with a bum numbing running time of 146 minutes. Still if I had my way, a film about a gladiatorial style fight to the death between teenagers would get a 15 or 18 rating on premise alone. Then the filmmakers would be free to go wild with the blood, guts and carnage.

Empire Magazine have a tantalizing new clip and the Facebook page is full of lovely pictures from the film. Oh and Twitter went nuts yesterday because J-Law has appeared with a new haircut so I though I'd share it for those of you interested in such things. Should provide a great bit of free publicity for promoting Catching Fire.

My review will be up on the Starburst Magazine website as soon as the embargo is lifted and will also hopefully be included in the print edition of the magazine asap.

VHS Cassettes and UFO's

What do VHS tapes and UFO's have in common? Well I have no idea but I've been writing about both of them over at Yahoo so I thought I'd let you know about both articles in one post.

Firstly seeing as this is a film blog I'll tell you about the piece I wrote for Yahoo about my VHS collection. They wanted articles about people's biggest money regrets so the only thing I could think of was my huge collection of VHS tapes. I worked at Blockbuster for 7 years and as DVD's were slowly taking over from VHS, I was determined not to get sucked into the new technology and instead was thinking how freaking smart I was by picking up all these ludicrously cheap VHS tapes. My film collection was huge and constantly growing. Anyway then my video player broke and DVD players had become so cheap that I had to jump on the DVD bandwagon.

Then Yahoo were looking for true life stories from people who had seen UFO's. Before all the crazies came out of the woodwork, I thought I'd get in first and share an experience I had when I was in my teens and me and my friends saw a floating pink orb one night. That article is cleverly titled:

I have no explanation for what happened that night but would love it if anyone could offer any theories.Have you ever seen a UFO? It sounds like everyone has a story so what is yours? I'd love to hear it!

Also I'm curious about other film fans' collections? Has anyone else got boxes or lofts full of videos still? You know they won't even take them in charity shops now? I couldn't even get 10p per video at a grage sale I went to once! 

I've learned my lesson anyway and I try not to buy too many films anymore. I'm sure the technology will just keep changing and I can't afford to keep up. That's why I love Lovefilm and renting. Anyone else given up on buying films?
